Imagine a chair. That should be easy. Most chairs are wooden, stand straight and are simple (unless you prefer to visualize minimilist versions). Now imagine what 10 of them in your room look like. Space getting cramped, huh? What about 100? Try fitting that many in your home. Now I bet you never imagined what exactly 1600 chairs look like. Doris Salcedo is here to help. Back in 2003 she stacked that many sitters between two buildings for the 8th International Istanbul Biennial.

I can’t imagine that she had any political, economic, or historical motivation. She just wants to grant the wish to those people who ever wondered, “What does shitload of chairs really look like.” But I’m more of a sofa guy.
