(Looks like this). Kyle Bean had one of those in mind when creating a “Matryoshka” doll of the evolution of the cell phone. Although not really technical or even to scale, concept is quite strong (how many of us are old enough to remember what those gigantic cell phones really looked like anyways?)

Artists from across the pond are known for going big and producing high quality vandalism that is hard to find anywhere else. Berlin is at the forefront of the vandal and street art movement in Europe and is home to Mentalgassi.

Mentalgassi is fairly new on street scene but they/he/she are producing high quality posters and placing them on the most procarious of locations. They creatively use mundane objects found on the street as a base for their posters and artwork. Most of their posters are people’s faces -err, making faces. The faces are pretty high quality and always wrap around the object they’re on.

This is some of the dopest highest quality stuff I’ve seen on the streets. I hope mentalgassi keeps killing shit on the street in the years to come.

What about 100? Try fitting that many in your home.  Now I bet you never imagined what exactly 1600 chairs look like.  Doris Salcedo is here to help.  Back in 2003 she stacked that many sitters between two buildings for the 8th International Istanbul Biennial.

I can’t imagine that she had any political, economic, or historical motivation.  She just wants to grant the wish to those people who ever wondered, “What does shitload of chairs really look like.”  But I’m more of a sofa guy.

I always remember hearing his name tagged along with all sorts of reviews and opinions. I grew up appreciating the aesthetic sides of things in life, for example Supreme and various other clothing brands that portray cleverness or simple leftfield contrasts or colors. I guess that’s why Damian Hirst + Supreme became reality.

I appreciate these deck designs because of all that, I could be blinded by past judgements but check this shit out:

Although this also proves what many other people say, that stamping a a popular name on things doesn’t mean that it should automatically be idolized.

Yep, that’s right, it’s not Steve OR Dylan. How did I happen to sneak up onto the scene? One answer could be that this is really Dylan writing this under a pseudo name of Phil. Too bad you are the dumbest person alive if you think that’s true. Here is the real answer: Dylan might be cool and Steve might be dope but Phil is dope AND cool.

My first post is going to be about vinyls.

No, I’m going to introduce you to the dope-est street artist: Banksy. Banksy is a graffiti artist whose shit is mostly in England (but recently his stuff has been seen in other countries). While most graffiti writers go around spraying their names on everything they see, Banksy is quite different. He rarely spray paints his name on a wall, rather he makes stencils of satirical and often-time comedic things (people, creatures, characters). All his pieces have a sublime message that is usually anti-government, anti-capitalistic, or against social norms. His stencilwork is distinctly his and fucking dope. Every piece you see by this dude makes you just saw Wow about three times.  Every, single, piece.

 

 

Banksy also pulls some pretty wicked pranks. In 2005, Banksy walked into the Brooklyn Museum, Metropolitan Museum of Art, Museum of Modern Art, and the Museum of Natural History and put up 8 pieces of actual artwork (of course he added his own touch to each piece) in the middle of the day. His shit wasn’t noticed until a full week later. In another stunt a couple of years later, he switched the little booklet of 1000 new Paris Hilton CD with a custom-made booklet of his own, poking fun of the blonde heiress.

A house that Banksy happened to deface was later sold for above market value. The Banksy piece was sold with the house thrown in for free. Banksy doesn’t go for the fame many street writers do, by getting their names on as many walls as possible. In fact his pieces are hard to find and new ones don’t show up that often. In fact fame is not at all what he wants, or at least he doesn’t show it. No one has ever seen Banksy. No one knows his real name, or age, or even his voice. Make sure to peep the pics and make sure to search banksy on the web and see all of his pieces because there are a crazy amount of them and they are all 100% sick.  Also the vid is a mustwatch if this artist interests you; it explains everything about him even better than I can.

Kehinde Wiley tributed famous black people by having them pose in the prestigious and honorable poses in such paintings of hierarchy in the renaissance. This can be looked at as either brilliant and clever to cheesy or disrespectful which is why I think it is so brilliant.
